Sports Betting Apps and Platforms in NY

Now that legislation has been passed, it’s expected that mobile sports betting here will become one of the largest in the United States. The interest in sports betting in New York is about 25% since around June 2018. It’s thought that many bettors have been going out of state to make bets.
With New York getting its own sports betting offerings, there is hope that these bettors will come back to the state. But, depending on the structure of the fees and taxes, sportsbooks may not provide bettors with competitive odds. Especially if a large portion of revenue has to be paid back to the state.
At this point, it’s unknown which apps plan to apply for a New York license, but we’ve created a list of a few companies that most likely will be among the first sports betting apps in New York.

Barstool Sportsbook

Barstool Sports started offering sports betting in September 2020. It first launched in Pennsylvania and is spreading to more states to increase its geographic footprint. The founder, David Portnoy, has said that he wants the company to run in every state where sports gambling is legal. So, we expect Barstool will be one of the first to apply for a license in New York.
We’ll give you a brief overview of what the app will be like based on how it works in other states. The app is powered by the software company Kambi, who also worked with other trustworthy providers. In addition, Barstool Sports has experience in betting-related content such as podcasts and videos.
Before its launch, Barstool Sports has said it has a specific team devoted to continued development for its betting app. This company offers a unique experience powered by a major supplier and is working on becoming one of the best sports betting apps in New York. The app’s layout is easy to use and it’s quick to sign up and start betting.
There are two main menus for navigation through the app to manage account settings. You can also view your open bets, look at promotions, go to the help center, set betting limits, and look at specific sports pages. If Barstool Sports becomes available in New York, you can download it on iOS and Android devices.

Bet365 is one of the largest betting platforms in the world. As a family-owned business, this company has a unique perspective in this increasingly corporate-like industry. Unlike its competitors, Bet 365 isn’t filled with stockholders, multi-million dollar mergers, and boardrooms.
The lack of stockholders allows this company to focus more on making their customers have a better experience. Bet365 has shown since its launch that it’s quicker in its operations than its competitors. For instance, it was one of the first betting sites to have an esports market.
Bet365 isn’t the best mobile sports betting site, but it has many options that choose it over other betting sites on the market. It has a reputation for having fantastic customer service and trustworthy business practices. In addition, this company often takes bigger wagers than other sportsbooks and posts upcoming event odds earlier. This site also has competitive odds making it an excellent option for your betting needs.
Bet365 doesn’t rank as highly in the bonus and promotion department. But, they’ve been working on improving their welcome bonuses as they launch in the US. It still doesn’t offer as many promotions as other sites. However, the ones it does offer are interesting.
The app rates well among users, it’s described as straightforward and intuitive. Many customers prefer this sports betting app more than others in the app store. The Bet365 app is available on both the app store of both Android and iOS devices.
Both versions of the app allow users to view the same features, sports, and live streaming options on the website. The Bet365 app functions and the website but allows for better viewing from your cell phone.

  • It’s a well-known betting website
  • It has many positive reviews from users
  • It has a license in many states and adding more

  • There aren’t many promotions
  • There aren’t live dealer games

New York Sports Betting Current State

Governor Andrew Cuomo and state legislators worked on bringing mobile sports betting to the state as soon as the end of 2021 or the beginning of 2022. Gaming regulators are working on creating a system to allow sportsbooks to request a New York sports betting license. At this point, it’s unknown how many sports betting apps will be available at the end of the process.
After New Jersey’s win in the Supreme Court in May 2018 for their sports betting case, New York was able to start allowing its residents to begin single-game wagering. In June of the same year, a betting law that included an integrity fee for sports leagues was abolished.
But, Senator Joseph Addabbo, the chair of the Senate Racing, Wagering, and Gaming Committee, had introduced a similar law more recently in 2019. Preliminary approval to rules and regulations was given by the New York State Gaming Commission in January 2019. The approval allowed sportsbooks to open starting in July 2019.

At this point, sports betting apps in New York are still on their way to become available to the general population. It isn’t known which providers will apply for a license, but it seems that Barstool and Bet365 are making plans to enter the state. We’ll have to wait and see which other sports betting sites decide to expand their operation.
