ACCIONA named as qualified contractor for U.S. Army solar power projects

ACCIONA Energy North America has been selected to compete for up to $7 billion in contracts to provide renewable energy to U.S. Army facilities. The Department of Defense is the largest single consumer of energy in the world, and it is mandated to meet at least 25% of its facilities’ energy needs with renewable energy by 2025. After a rigorous application process, the Army named ACCIONA as one of the few firms qualified to develop, finance, design, build, operate, own and maintain solar energy plants that will power its facilities.

The Army will pursue opportunities for wind and biomass energy as well and is expected to select the contractors qualified to provide renewable energy from these technologies soon. In total the Department of Defense has committed to deploy three gigawatts of renewable energy on Army, Navy and Air Force installations by 2025, enough to power 750,000 homes.
