The University of Missouri is moving forward with its plan to build a $40 million nuclear reactor that could produce as much as 50% of the countrys supply of molybdenum-99 -- the parent radioisotope of technetium-99, used in many nuclear medicine procedures. The Missouri Life Sciences Trust Fund recently awarded a $1.1 million grant to the university to come up with a design of the new facility, which is expected to generate jobs and boost the local economy.
