Gold Mining to Start in Kyenjojo

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, Daudi Migereko, has licensed a company to explore gold in Rugombe, Kyenjojo District. United Global Agency, Kampala are expected to start work very soon around the identified area 2 kms southwards of the district. In 1938 gold was reportedly discovered in a swamp near Nyamabuga, Rugombe. The District LC5 chairperson, James Byamukama, has said last Monday that the local people would get employment opportunities. He said this was a big achievement that would contribute towards the development of the district. "I see so many direct benefits we shall get as a district and people will get some of the money got from the mining of gold." said Byamukama. On the land conflicts which had arisen in Kyaka Sub-County where a bio-diesel project has begun on a pilot basis, he said the district wants the project to be established on the land that is surveyed to resolve the outstanding problems.
