Det Norske granted consent to conduct exploration drilling with Songa Delta – well 6507/11-10

Det Norske Oljeselskap ASA has been granted consent to conduct exploration drilling in the Norwegian Sea with the mobile facility Songa Delta.

The consent applies to drilling of exploration well 6507/11-10 which is part of production licence 476 and is located about 30 kilometres south of Heidrun (the map).

The well has the following geographical coordinates:

N 65° 05' 35.19",  E 7° 35' 47.13". The water depth at the site is 270 metres.

The start-up of drilling activities is expected to be 20 November 2009 at the earliest. The well will  be permanently plugged and abandoned.

Songa Delta (formerly Deepsea Delta) is a third generation mobile drilling facility of the Ocean Ranger type, completed at Rauma Repola (Finland) in 1981.

Songa Delta is operated by Odfjell Drilling AS in Bergen.

The facility received a new Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) due to the change of name in June 2009 (link).
