RUD STARPOINT VRS lifting point offers ultimate safety by adjusting to the direction of the pull

RUD Logo

RUD Chains is a leading manufacturer of lifting and lashing equipment that helps guarantee ultimate safety when lifting and handling heavy loads. Their diverse product range offers over 600 lifting and lashing points for bolting and welding covering a working load capacity range from 0.6-250 tonnes.

Top quality lifting equipment when handling heavy loads is vital to the safety of the operator as well as ensuring the loads are not damaged. When undertaking a lift it is important to be aware that the direction of the pull of the lifting point can have a major impact on the working load limit which in turn can create a safety breach. To avoid a safety breach, lifting equipment that can adjust to the direction of the pull to allow full engagement of the bolt is needed.

The RUD STARPOINT VRS lifting point for bolting has been designed to adjust to the direction of the pull. It rotates 360° meaning the working load limit is therefore always at the direction of the load. The STARPOINT removes the chance of bent eyes, backed out threads, or over-tightening which would cause unnecessary stress on the stem.

The VRS offers a safety factor of 4:1, is operational down to temperatures as low as -40° and offers a higher WLL than the DIN 580 eye bolt. It comes with RUD’s NEW ICE-Bolt which offers a higher toughness, bending strength and less wear occurance.

Complex lifts where the load has to be handled in all directions can be safely and effectively done with the use of the STARPOINT VRS. The VRS can be used across a variety of working environments from engineering, construction, rail, offshore, handling and MOD projects to name a few.

Unique Group

Removal of the coupling bolts on a 9E gas turbine using spark erosion technique

Spark erosion, also known as metal disintegration or electro discharge machining (EDM), is a technique that’s primarily used for tap, stud, bolt and drill removal or seized fasteners. The cutting action of a metal disintegrator is accomplished by creating a series of intermittent electric arcs that break down the hardest metals into minute particles in a safe and controlled manner.

An electrode, held in the head of the disintegrator, vibrates as it cuts while a coolant is pumped through the electrode to wash away the powdered metal. The technique chiefly employs electrical energy to remove metal from the work piece without creating any contact with it. The technique can also be used for marine and marine engine repairs.

As there are no cutting forces involved in a spark erosion process, delicate operations can be performed on thin work pieces. The technique can produce shapes unobtainable by a conventional machining process and can also be used to provide a texture on the inside of mold tools for plastic products.

Sahil Gandhi, Director at Unique Group’s On-Site Engineering division commented, “Our Wellube brand is widely recognised as a leader in the provision of on-site machining services. As a world-renowned brand, we’re continuously on the lookout to grow our reach by offering new services to customers the world over. The decision to partner with KSB was imminent considering their in-depth experience in the spark erosion industry.”

“Their spark erosion machines are powerful and highly reliable, thereby ensuring maximum material removal in minimum time, thus keeping the customer on schedule.”

Paul Eccles, Spark Erosion Sales Manager at KSB asserted, “We’re pleased with our new association with Unique Group. We at KSB have always aimed at giving our customers the best possible service to suit their business needs backed by a 24hr support plan and the same ideology resonates with the Unique Group team. AFL launches Micro-Tactical Fiber Optic Cable

AFL Logo

AFLa global manufacturer of fiber optic cable and accessories, is adding to its tactical fiber optic cable line by introducing micro-tactical cable. Designed for rapid deployment in networks that require high mechanical performance specifications, AFL’s micro-tactical cable combines ruggedness with ultra-high fiber density. The military-grade cable withstands high tensile loads, severe crushing forces, repeated impacts and extreme temperatures.

Click photo to download

“Innovation in tactical fiber optic cables has been largely stagnant for the last several years,” explained Craig Stratton, market and development manager for AFL. “AFL recognized a need to offer a high fiber count solution to meet the increasing demand for reliable signal transmission in harsh environments.”

With fiber counts up to 96, the micro-tactical cable is the highest fiber count military grade tactical cable available on the market today. The higher fiber density allows for longer deployment lengths without sacrificing bandwidth. And with longer assembly lengths, optical connections are reduced thereby enhancing network performance.

AFL offers a variety of tactical cable jacket materials enabling the cable to be used in areas where it may be exposed to high temperatures, wet locations, industrial chemicals and severe mechanical stresses. The micro-tactical cable is ideal for the broadcast industry, as well as military, mining, rail and petrochemical applications.
