Formed in 1998, Marex, whose core business is Safety Case authorship (introduced in UK under the Cullen Report following the Piper alpha platform disaster in 1988) now has two rapidly expanding departments, Risk and Marine, which operate from its harbour side offices in Aberdeen, Scotland.

The departments carry out work for oil majors, including Principal Marine Support provision, Ship Vetting, Auditing, Incident Investigation, Safety Management Systems, Safety Cases, Thorough Reviews, Bow Tie Risk Assessment, Practical Risk Assessment Workshops for Managements and Crews and the planning and execution of Rig Moves as well as undertaking Technical Authorship, OVIDS and General Marine Consultancy.

Marex has developed innovative ways of ensuring that aspects of the PFEER (Prevention of Fire Explosion and Emergency Response) Regulations, and the Design and Construction Regulations are addressed. It has helped its clients introduce user friendly verification schemes.

The Marex risk assessment techniques ensure that the workforce is better able to understand the Safety Case and the implementation of its related regulations. Greater involvement of the workforce is a key point made much of at the joint industry conferences on the topic. Marex Marine achieves FPAL Verify

Marex Marine and Risk Consultancy is extremely pleased to announce that it has just successfully completed and scored well in its first Verify Audit. Marex is very grateful to its long term client Total E&P (UK) for the proposal.

The achievement fits well with the Marex culture of continual improvement and growth.

Verify is an FPAL supplier assessment service that involves a ‘verification visit’ to nominated suppliers’ premises to assess Health & Safety, Environment and Competence & Training practices. For the Health & Safety and the Environmental practices this is in alignment with oil and gas industry’s OGP & NORSOK standards. The results of the visit, along with individual supplier improvement plans are then shared online between those FPAL purchasers who participate in the Verify scheme.

The Verify scheme contributes towards raising industry standards and reducing the burden of repetitive audits by replacing them with a single shared HSEC audit which is valid for up to two years.

• Verify is oil & gas industry specific Verify was developed by the industry for the industry. The content of the assessment focuses specifically towards the needs of the industry and FPAL assessors have a broad knowledge of oil and gas industry practices.

• Verify gives the detail When a company has been assessed through Verify, the report and the improvement plan enable Verify purchasers to see the full detail of the assessment.

• Verify enables objective selection Verify enables the purchaser to make a fair comparison of suppliers and to identify those who exceed expectation rather than just meet a minimum certified standard.

Marex Marine have been involved in the development of more than 100 semi-submersible and jack-up Safety Cases, one of the jack-ups being a vessel with jacking capability.
