New AVEVA Automated Plate Nesting™ optimises material use in ship and offshore construction

Number one tool for scrap optimisation delivers savings of up to 13% on raw material requirements compared to other third-party systemsCambridge, UK: AVEVA today announced the release of the new AVEVA Automated Plate Nesting, a plug-in module to AVEVA Hull Detailed Design™ software. It automatically and efficiently nests parts into raw steel plates, maximising the usage of the material and drastically reducing the scrap ratio associated with this process.

By minimising production waste in this manner, shipyards can achieve savings of up to 13% on raw material requirements when compared to using semi-automatic nesting or other third-party systems. AVEVA Automated Plate Nesting has already proven to be number one for scrap optimisation, following comparison tests. In addition, this new module makes the nesting process far easier which leads to saving significant man-hours in production engineering.

‘The striking rise in steel prices over the last ten years has made the more efficient use of steel material a real priority for the shipbuilding and offshore market’, said Bruce Douglas, Senior VP Marketing & Product Strategy, AVEVA. ‘AVEVA Automated Plate Nesting provides an accurate and sophisticated plate cutting process that reduces waste and man-hours both of which have a direct benefit to the bottom line.’

AVEVA Automated Plate Nesting is a direct plugin to AVEVA Hull Detailed Design, removing the need for costly interfaces or third-party systems. It is compatible with the most recent version of AVEVA Marine.

AVEVA supports Aberdeen’s offshore oil & gas industry

AVEVA to showcase solutions for EPCs and Owner Operators at key events in the North Sea region

Chesterfield, UK – 13 March 2013: AVEVA today announced its attendance at two key events for the Aberdeen-based North Sea oil & gas industry. IMechE: Ageing Offshore Installations and KP4 and Improving offshore facilities management, operations and maintenance will take place on 19 and 20 March respectively. AVEVA will showcase solutions for both EPCs (Engineering, Procurement and Construction contractors) and Owner Operators that enable rapid and efficient plant revamp and modification projects, demonstrating how these can reduce project execution time and cost, improving safety, and maximise data quality and integrity.

“A key challenge is to maintain the integrity of a plant’s digital information asset throughout its entire lifecycle, particularly through the disruption of a major modification or revamp”, said Fredy Ktourza, Senior Vice-President – West EMEA, AVEVA. “Whether the work is carried out by an EPC or the OO itself, the ultimate goal must be a plant that continues to operate safely, supported by an accurate as-built digital asset and with a reliable single source of up to date and accessible information.

“We will be showcasing our brand-new plant design product, AVEVA Everything3D, to demonstrate the power of integrating laser scanning with 3D design. This enables the accurate and detailed capture of the as-built environment both before and after a revamp/modification. In addition, we will also exhibit our information management solutions that enable the consolidation and sharing of all project and asset information, maintaining its quality and integrity from design, through handover and for the asset’s entire operating life.”

At Improving offshore facilities management, operations and maintenance, AVEVA will present ‘Access to and unlocking the value of engineering information in operations’. Most plants today use many different applications which lock data away in disconnected ‘silos’, making it difficult to ensure the consistency of asset information. The presentation will describe the simple principles that unlock the information silos, enabling both Owner Operators and their EPC contractors to perform effectively.

IMechE: Ageing Offshore Installations and KP4 takes place on 19 March 2013 at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre. Improving offshore facilities management, operations and maintenance takes place 20 March 2013 at the Hilton Aberdeen Treetops – Aberdeen. Further information is available at www.aveva.com/events.

AVEVA presents at Kuwait EPC Projects Summit 2013

Dubai, UAE – 4 February 2013: AVEVA announced today that it is presenting, sponsoring and exhibiting at the upcoming Kuwait EPC Projects Summit being held 18-19 February 2013. Engineering, Procurement and Construction contractors (EPCs) will be able to learn about AVEVA’s software solutions for Integrated Project Execution, and how they can increase efficiency, reduce time and costs on major capital projects. On Tuesday 19 February at 11am AVEVA will present ‘Maximising the value of digital information from design to operations’.

“Managing and assuring the integrity of both the digital and the physical asset is a challenge shared by both EPCs and Owner Operators throughout the lifecycle of engineering projects”, said Evgeny Fedotov, Senior Vice President, Russia, India & Middle East, AVEVA. “With an estimated 1% of total capital expenditure wasted as a result of poorly executed project information handovers, it is vital that data related to these assets be integrated and shared from initial design through to operations.”

“The Kuwait EPC Projects Summit is a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase our plant project lifecycle solutions, which enable the adoption of an Integrated Project Execution strategy. Along with our presentation, we will be demonstrating how our business-critical software solutions are helping the process plant community work efficiently throughout the whole value chain, reducing cost and risk and improving data quality.”

AVEVA will present how its solutions can assist in managing design, construction, handover and operations more effectively and safely, from FEED through Operations. For more information please visit www.aveva.com/events/kuwait-epc.

Legrand goes 3D with AVEVA

Legrand’s Swifts IEC cable ladder, IEC cable tray, Salamandre distribution trunking and Cablofil wire mesh cable tray systems have been integrated into the industry leading AVEVA PDMS 3D design software.

Matt Crunden, Marketing Manager for Legrand’s cable management division, said: “This has been done with the dual intention of increasing specifications and placing our products in the right shop windows in recognition of the industry’s shift to Building Information Modelling (BIM).”

AVEVA is the world’s leading engineering software provider to the process plant, power and marine industries. Its AVEVA PDMS 3D design software delivers maximum productivity and capability on all types of plant projects, from the smallest upgrade to new build projects of unlimited size and complexity.

Bruce Douglas, AVEVA’s Senior Vice-President, EDS Strategy & Marketing, said: “Legrand is a world leader in cable management and we are delighted to provide integration for its cable management solutions to AVEVA PDMS 12 series.

“We are working hard to offer our customers greater access to industry standard components directly within PDMS, allowing them to use standard databases rather than being forced to create their own catalogues. This integration is further evidence of why PDMS is widely considered the most configurable 3D plant design solution for the process plant and power industries.”

For further information on Legrand, its cable management solutions and how they are operating within BIM visit www.legrand3d.co.uk or call 0845 605 4333.
