Prysmian To Showcase At OTC 2010 In Houston, TX, USA, A Wide Range Of High-Tech Cable Systems For The Oil & Gas Industry
Prysmian Cables & Systems - leading worldwide player in the energy and telecommunications cable market - will play a major role at the 2010 session of OTC (Offshore Technology Conference) by presenting a wide range of high-tech cable systems for the Oil & Gas Industry, both for on shore and offshore applications, as well as a wide range of submarine power cables, umbilicals and flexible pipes.
In addition to its current production of both steel and thermoplastic umbilicals, the Group will complement its product offer by commencing full production also of Flexible Pipes for offshore Oil & Gas extraction later this year in the expanded production facility of Vila Velha, Brazil, constructed exclusively for the manufacturing of these products. This is a significant step forward that allows Prysmian to offer a complete range of SURF (Subsea Umbilical, Riser and Flowline) products and services to OG&P sector operators.
The beginning of production operations in the new plant follows an investment of approximately $ 110 million to complement the existing plant dedicated to the production of Umbilicals, opened in early 2007, a four–year frame agreement signed by Prysmian in 2008 with the Brazilian oil major Petrobras for the design and supply of a wide range of dynamic risers and static Flowlines, covering up to 6” diameter pipes, and the completion in 2009 of the first prototype lengths of the newly-developed Flexible Pipes that have been manufactured in full compliance with the required design and project specifications.
Prysmian is strongly committed to develop and provide products and services for the entire Oil & Gas Industry, throughout the supply chain – from ESP exploration systems to refineries and processing plants – as the ongoing contracts awarded for the major fields worldwide (e.g. Kashagan in Kazakhstan, Pearl GT in Qatar, etc.) demonstrate. In the sector of umbilicals, in 2009 the company won a series of contracts with Petrobras for the supply of 84.5 km of high-tech cable. These contracts, worth a total of approximately USD 42 million, involve supplying six different types and configurations of umbilical systems for installation in the four Campos and Espirito Santo offshore oil and gas fields by the end of 2010.
In addition to its well-known range of traditional products complying with the strictest and severest international and local standards and specification, Prysmian stands out also for its commitment to innovation. This is confirmed by the consensus gained in the US and Canada marketplace by the innovative AIRGUARD™ Cable System (adopted mostly in oil-processing and petrochemical applications for its outstanding resistance to mechanical stress and chemical attack), which is becoming more and more the reference standard product in these applications.
Samples of the Prysmian’s full product range will be on display at the Prysmian Booth (Stand 4931, Hall A/B) from May 3rd to 6th in Houston where experts and technicians will be happy to provide the latest updates about the Group’s products and services for the Oil & Gas Industry.
