Advancing solar panel testing with sophisticated controller features

HOLLAND, Mich., May 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Thermotron’s intuitive 8800 programmer controller meets the synchronized testing needs of IEC solar tests.
The 8800 fully controls and records up to 20 power supplies for biasing modules during temperature and humidity testing. The 8800 automatically turns power supplies on and off during a test at a desired temperature humidity condition as required by IEC testing specifications. The current can be cycled to switch between peak current and low current during the continuity test profile. The voltage and current of each power supply is recorded in the 8800 Paperless Recorder along with air temperature, product temperature, and relative humidity. Thermotron currently offers integration of power supplies from leading manufacturers such as Lambda/TDK, Ametek/Sorensen, and Glassman.

The 8800’s second humidity sensor input allows the use of a redundant sensor. If the primary sensor drifts due to contamination, the redundant sensor takes over, preventing the loss of valuable test time during super critical long-term damp heat and humidity freeze test profiles.

The easy-to-use 8800 programmer controller has the most common solar test specifications pre-programmed in to memory. Simply select the solar test needed and run. The 8800 features a 12-inch color touch-screen monitor with an intuitive user interface. Communications with the test equipment is supported by USB ports, Ethernet, and computer interface.

For more than 50 years, Thermotron has been developing and refining environmental chamber solutions that set industry standards. Capable of performing thermal cycling, damp heat, and humidity freeze tests as detailed in IEC 61646, IEC 61215, and UL 1703, Thermotron Solar Test Chambers have been used by world-renowned independent solar PV test labs and large manufacturers. Thermotron provides an all-inclusive solar test solution, complete with test fixtures specifically developed for easy loading and unloading of solar panels. Fixtures are constructed of durable, long-lasting, lightweight materials that can adjust to safely support panels of different configurations, optimizing airflow and environmental consistency throughout the entire workspace.
