GE Energy introduces taller wind turbine towers

GE (NYSE: GE) today introduced taller towers for its onshore wind turbine product line. The new towers enable higher annual energy production (AEP) and increase the number of potential wind sites. The towers initially will be offered for GE’s 2.5MW series including the new 2.75-103 wind turbine.  The taller towers are available with hub heights in excess of 130 meters.  Read more…

Siemens Commissions Transformers at Flat Water Wind Farm

Siemens Energy, Inc. recently and successfully commissioned its pad-mount transformers at the Flat Water Wind Farm. The transformers, rated at 1,750 kVA, three-phase at 60 Hz, are connected to wind turbines and are used as generation step-up transformers. They are meeting three unique wind farm electrical requirements that affect the usage of pad-mounted transformers: operation as a step-up transformer, over-excitation requirements and the need for enhanced insulation with greater basic impulse insulation level BIL. Siemens was responsible for design, manufacturing, delivery and commissioning. Read more…
