Siemens to supply instrumentation & controls system and steam turbine-generators for solar thermal power plant in the U.S.

Siemens Energy has received an order for the supply of an SPPA-T3000 instrumentation & controls (I&C) system and two steam turbine-generators for the Ivanpah solar thermal power plant located in the Mojave desert in California. The purchaser is BrightSource Energy Inc., a developer of utility-scale solar thermal power plants headquartered in Oakland, California. Siemens will supply the SPPA-T3000 for all three units of the Ivanpah project with a combined installed capacity of approximately 400 megawatts (MW). This is the first deployment of the innovative I&C system in a solar tower power plant of this size. For Ivanpah Units 2 and 3 the company will also supply two steam turbines and two generators. The start of commercial operation of the Ivanpah Units 2 and 3 is scheduled for 2013. The plant’s capacity will be sufficient to supply approximately 140,000 households with clean power and is expected to reduce annual CO emissions by more than 400,000 tons. Read more…

AWE’s Al Meashar-2 tests oil

AWE Limited reports that as at 0600 hours Yemen time on January 11, 2011 (-8 hours EDST) the Al Meashar-2 appraisal well in Block 7, Yemen, was being drill stem tested using a jet pump over the basement target interval. Oil was produced at an estimated average of 145 barrels/day. The well is currently shut in for further build-up tests and will then be suspended. Read more…

KDC Solar to Build 3.25 MW Solar Facility at United Stationers’ Distribution Center in Cranbury, New Jersey

KDC Solar has teamed up with United Stationers Supply Co. and The Sudler Companies to design, install, own and operate a 3.25 MW roof-mounted solar installation at United Stationers’ distribution center in Cranbury, New Jersey. Once completed, the solar facility will generate approximately 3,450,000 kilowatt hours of solar electricity per year. The warehouse, which is leased to United Stationers by the Sudler Companies, is one of United’s largest volume distribution centers in the country. Read more…
