New York’s Newest Wind Farm Now Under Construction

Iberdrola Renewables recently began construction at its newest wind farm project, in Herkimer County, New York. Large wind turbine components arrive almost daily by truck, laying the groundwork for the 74 megawatt (MW) Hardscrabble Wind Power Project in the towns of Fairfield, Norway, and Little Falls. The nearly $200 million wind project, which is expected to complete construction and begin delivering emission-free electricity at the end of the year, is one of seven new wind farms Iberdrola Renewables currently has under construction around the U.S.

ShaMaran Acquires Interest in Major Oil Project in Kurdistan

ShaMaran Petroleum Corp. Wood Group wins contract with BP

Wood Group has entered into a contract with BP Operating Company Ltd (BP) to provide topside engineering and project management services for BP’s Andrew Area Development project in the central North Sea. The project scope includes the tie-back of the Kinnoull reservoir to Andrew, some 28km away, and the development of the Lower Cretaceous development located beneath the platform.

The two year contract, worth approximately £75m, covers topsides engineering, procurement and construction on the Andrew platform and encompasses the installation of a new 800 tonne module and extensive brownfield modifications scope.

The Wood Group project management and engineering team, of approximately 150 personnel, are currently working to define the offshore workscope. Subsea specialist Wood Group Kenny is also supporting the development of the Kinnoull subsea tie-back to Andrew.

Alan Curran, Wood Group Engineering (North Sea’s) CEO said, “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract by BP. We look forward to maintaining and strengthening our alignment with BP’s drive to improve safety and efficiency.”

BP’s Keith Williams, the project General Manager, said “This contract awarded to Wood Group is the latest in a series of awards to local companies to support BP’s Andrew Area developments. Hundreds of local jobs are being secured to support this project over the next couple of years, with UK businesses accounting for around 90 per cent of the total project cost of £500million. We look forward to working with Wood Group to progress the project towards a start up in 2012.”

As part of Exelon’s industry-leading effort to reduce energy consumption across its facilities, the company announced today that it has increased its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®)-certified space to more than 650,000 square feet. Most recently, the U.S. Green Building Council awarded LEED Platinum certification for Commercial Interiors (CI) to Exelon’s 27,000-square-foot corporate headquarters expansion in a downtown Chicago skyscraper.

TNK-BP Improves Its Performance in West Siberia Fields

OJSC Varyoganneftegaz (incorporated into TNK-BP) is performing well construction works ahead of its business plan since the beginning of 2010, having drilled 67 wells in this period against the planned 57 wells. Well construction wells are underway in the Verkhnelik-Eganskoe, Severo-Khokhryakovskoe, Koshelskoe, Permyakovskoe, Khokhryakovskoe, and Vanyoganskoe fields. A total of 103 wells will be drilled by the end of the year according to the business plan.

AES Expands Small Hydro Platform in Turkey to 42 MW

The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES) today announced the start of commercial operations for the 16 MW Damlapinar hydro power facility on the Goksu River in Karaman, Turkey. The hydropower facility is owned and operated by AES-IC Ictas Energy (“AES-IC”), a 51 percent AES owned joint venture. The project increases AES’ small hydro capacity in Turkey to 42 MW. The project cost was $65 million, of which $36 million was financed by a non-recourse seven year term loan.

Delineation of gas discovery in the northwestern Norwegian Sea – 6604/10-1

The gas discovery was proven in 2009 in Upper Cretaceous reservoir rocks (the Springar formation). The discovery is located about 350 km west of Sandnessjøen. Before appraisal well 6604/10-1 was drilled, resource estimates for the discovery were between 10 and 100 billion standard cubic metres (Sm3) of recoverable gas.

Looking for a Design Draughtperson in Aberdeen

Job Purpose:
To develop oil tool equipment designs to meet specific customer requirements through the creation of AutoCAD or Inventor drawings and the creation or modification of technical Bills of Materials.

Job Duties:
* The Draughtsperson will typically be given tasks by an Engineer / Senior Engineer/Engineering Supervisor. The draughtsman is typically required to create or modify Engineering drawings and Bills of Material for equipment. These drawings may include but are not limited to layout drawings, manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, stack-up drawings, sketches and schematics. The Draughtsperson shall also create or revise Bills of Materials as directed by the responsible Engineer and may also be required to raise Commercial Part Numbers. The Draughtsperson will be responsible for the electronic filing of drawings and Bills of Material.
* The job holder will, take direction from the responsible Engineer in order to develop design concepts which satisfy customers needs and uphold the company’s standards of functional design and quality.
* The job holder’s technical knowledge, skill and experience must embrace the industry’s accepted draughting standards and those specifications set out in API, AISI standards etc.
* During the preparation of design documents and manufacturing drawings the Draughtsperson will adhere to the procedures stipulated in the Product Engineering Manual (PEM) and the Quality Assurance Manual (QAM). These may be modified in certain instances by Special Procedures (SPs) or customer Purchase Order requirements.
* The job holder will typically receive technical direction to ensure that their work fulfils all the requirements of the contract and of company internal procedures, standards etc. The Designer/Draughtsperson will be required to check drawings and work performed by others. Before documents are released the Designer/Draughtsperson will ensure that they have been checked and that they have been subject to design review and approval.

The Ideal Candidate:
* HND or Degree
* AutoCAD/Inventor experience.
* A number of years experience within a Draughting role, preferably within the Subsea sector.

NSTAR Proposes 32 Percent Cut in Natural Gas Price

Friday, Aug 27, 2010
For the remainder of the summer and into the fall, NSTAR Gas customers can expect to pay a supply price that’s about 32 percent less than the current summer price. The company has submitted a new gas supply rate of just over 21 cents per therm, down from the current price of 31 cents. If approved by the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities, the price cut will save the average NSTAR Gas customer nearly $4.00 a month beginning on September 1st.
