Opening of French Wind Farm takes res to four Gigawatts.

Friday, May 15, 2009

Renewable Energy Systems Group has now built over 4GW of wind energy capacity worldwide following commissioning of the 50 MW Pays de St Seine wind farm in France2, which is being officially opened today (Friday 15 May 2009). The project brings to 4,037MW the total amount of capacity developed and/or constructed by companies within the RES Group since RES’s first project at Carland Cross in Cornwall, England, in 1992.

Today’s inauguration of Pays de St Seine, which was developed by EOLE-RES3, the French subsidiary of the RES Group, will be attended by regional and local government officials and politicians and more than 200 guests. The highlight of the event will see a professional abseiler descending one of the 130 metre high wind turbines.

Located in the Bourgogne region in the Côte d’Or department, Pays de St Seine is the 14th wind farm EOLE-RES has built in France.  The project comprises 25 Vestas V90 2MW turbines, which will generate sufficient pollution-free electricity to meet the needs of around 48,000 people every year. Construction began in February 2008.  EOLE-RES has completed approximately 300MW of wind energy capacity across France and has several hundred megawatts currently in development in the Mediterranean region.

Jean-Marc Armitano, CEO of RES Mediterranean, commented;

“We are delighted to complete Pays de St Seine wind farm, reinforcing RES’s position as a leading player in the Mediterranean renewable energy market. The success of the Pays de St Seine project is down to our experienced development team and the excellent working relationships we established with the local community, the turbine supplier Vestas and all other companies involved in the construction.  We are pleased to have delivered the project to our usual excellent safety, quality and environmental standards and we are looking forward to kicking off another three projects in France in 2009, all of which will make a significant contribution to France’s renewable energy target.”

Dr Ian Mays MBE, CEO of the RES Group, commented;

“Passing the 4GW milestone of capacity constructed worldwide is a reflection of our continued growth in the face of the current global economic challenges.  It took RES 14 years to build our first gigawatt and we’ve added another three gigawatts in the three years since then. This outstanding achievement demonstrates our successful business approach over the last 25 years, underpinned by skilled international teams covering every aspect of wind farm development, construction and operation.  We are proud to have contributed to the success of wind energy as a mainstream technology that can contribute to energy security and carbon reduction, and at the same time provide valuable jobs and economic growth. “

Four gigawatts of wind energy capacity is sufficient to supply approximately 2.2 million average UK homes a year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 4.5 million tonnes annually4.  It is more than the total wind energy capacity currently installed in the UK.  The 4GW is made up of 79 international projects including the recently completed Lynn and Inner Dowsing offshore wind farm in England, built by RES for Centrica and currently the world’s largest offshore wind farm at 194MW.  The 4GW comprises 2,639 turbines ranging in size from a 225kW model at the RES Group’s head office to the 3.6MW turbines recently installed at Lynn and Inner Dowsing.

Aegean Marine Petroleum Network Inc. Enters into Agreement to Sell Two Specialty Ro-Ro Tankers

Thursday, May 14, 2009

Aegean Marine Petroleum Network Inc. today announced that it has entered into an agreement to sell its two 2,400 dwt specialty ro-ro tankers, the Maistros and the Ostria, to an unrelated third party. Upon completing the sale of both vessels, which are not related to Aegean’s core business for the physical supply of marine fuel, the Company expects to realize a net gain in the second quarter of 2009. The Company intends to use the proceeds of the sale to pay down debt.
E. Nikolas Tavlarios, President, commented, “With this transaction, management has once again acted opportunistically for shareholders. The agreement to sell Aegean’s two specialty ro-ro tankers at an attractive price further reduces our debt, enhances our financial flexibility and strengthens our focus on the Company’s core operations for the physical supply of marine fuel. With an expected profit from this sale, Aegean will further increase its sizeable liquidity position, a core differentiator for the Company. Aegean remains focused on drawing upon its significant access to capital to further strengthen the Company’s industry leading position and drive future shareholder value.”

About Aegean Marine Petroleum Network Inc.

Aegean Marine Petroleum Network Inc. is an international marine fuel logistics company that markets and physically supplies refined marine fuel to ships in port and at sea. The Company procures product from various sources (such as refineries, oil producers, and traders) and resells it to a diverse group of customers across all major commercial shipping sectors and leading cruise lines. Currently, Aegean has a global presence in 14 markets, including Vancouver, Montreal, Mexico, Jamaica, West Africa, Gibraltar, U.K., Northern Europe, Piraeus and Patras (Greece), the United Arab Emirates as well as Singapore, and plans to commence operations in Tangiers, Morocco and Trinidad and Tobago.

J P Kenny companies secure their largest ever FEED contract for Ichthys LNG development

Thursday, May 14, 2009

J P Kenny, (JPK), a subsidiary of John Wood Group PLC (“Wood Group”) is to carry out front end engineering design (FEED) of the pipeline and umbilicals, risers and flowlines (URF), for the INPEX-operated Ichthys liquefied natural gas project in Western Australia’s Browse basin.  MCS, another Wood Group company, will design the dynamic riser system.

INPEX Browse Ltd (INPEX), operator of the Ichthys Project on behalf of joint venture participants – INPEX (76%) and Total (24%) – has been working with J P Kenny on concepts for the development since 2007. The FEED will require almost 200,000 man-hours of input and will produce defined solutions for the Subsea systems for the 850 km export pipeline.

Gerwyn Williams, Group Managing Director, J P Kenny said, “We are delighted to be engineering our fourth successive $multi-billion subsea and pipeline project on the North West Shelf.   Our track record on projects such as Woodside’s Pluto has been to create savings of hundreds of millions of dollars, and we are pleased that INPEX want to capitalise on that expertise.”

Phil Brown, Operations Director of J P Kenny in Perth, added, “The riser engineering capabilities of MCS, a 2008 acquisition by Wood Group, will really help us to devise the best engineering solutions for this project, and the MCS team has been critical in developing our relationship with INPEX. This project will also involve significant contributions from JPK sister companies Ionik and MSi.”

The Ichthys Project is expected to have an initial capacity to produce more than eight million tonnes of LNG per annum, approximately 1.6 million tonnes of LPG per annum and 100,000 barrels of condensate per day, at peak.  The first shipment of LNG is scheduled to be loaded in 2015.
