MPA and SingTel collaborate to promote maritime research and innovation

Singapore, 28 April 2008 – The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) announced today the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Maritime Telecommunications Technology Research and Innovation.  The two parties will collaborate to promote maritime technology R&D as part of Singapore’s development as a maritime telecommunications hub and international maritime centre.

GE announces new state-of-the-art technology center in Saudi Arabia

GE Energy, a global supplier of power generation and energy delivery technologies, has announced the ground-breaking of a new state-of-the-art service centre in Dammam, developed in association with GE’s joint venture partner Ali A Tamimi & Sons Company. With an investment of SAR280 million (US$75 million), the center will span 125,000 square feet, and expand GE Energy’s capabilities to serve its customers in the region.

Total brings subsea Moho Bilondo on stream in 33 months

Total E&P Congo announces today that the deep offshore Moho-Bilondo field has been brought on stream in the Republic of the Congo, nearly a month ahead of schedule. Discovered in 1995, the field is located nearly 80 kilometres offshore in water depths ranging from 540 to 730 metres and contains estimated reserves of close to 230 million barrels of oil.

ENI moves on with Longhorn subsea project

Eni has started the development of the Longhorn gas field, located in the Gulf of Mexico (blocks MC 502 and 546) approximately 195 kilometres southeast of New Orleans in 730 meters (2,400 feet) of water depth. The Longhorn development is operated by Eni with a 75% working interest, while Nexen Petroleum Offshore U.S.A. Inc. owns 25%.

Cost of US$22 billion Ras Tanura petrochemical plant could rise

The estimated cost of Saudi Aramco and Dow Chemicals’ Ras Tanura petrochemical plant of US$22 bln could rise further. Tight equipment and labour supplies continue to propel costs for energy projects globally, causing delays and even cancellations. Aramco will have a revised estimate for the cost of the plant in September next year when the plant’s initial design should be completed. The plant is scheduled to begin production in 2012.
