Allied Training Services marks successful 10th year with record turnover and re-accreditation
Thursday, Nov 08, 2012

Aberdeen-based offshore training provider Allied Training Services has achieved its third re-accreditation of its landmark level of certification, Det Norske Veritas’ (DNV) ISO 9001:2008, for the provision of rope access training and the provision of equipment hire for rope access to the onshore and offshore industries. Set up 10 years ago, the offshore training specialist is on target to turn over a record turnover of £750,000 in 2012, exceeding last year’s £500,000 figure.

In what has been a very successful year for the company, it has taken steps to once again lead the industry in terms of training accreditation. The energy industry-focused company recently had its third annual audit and received the re-accreditation confirming it operates to the highest industry standards. The company believes it is the only member of trade association Industrial Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA) in Scotland to hold this level of certification.

Allied, which counts Paradigm, Maersk Training and Prosafe as clients, has held ISO 9001:2008 Management System Standard since 2009. This solely covered its management system until the recent audit by DNV which has extended its scope.

Danny Lonie, managing director, Allied Training Services said: “2012 has been a hugely successful year for us. We are on target to turnover £750,000 for 2012 after breaking through the £500,000 mark last year and are now working with most of the big operators in the North Sea, Africa and India.

“Allied Training Services started out in 2002 as a forklift training centre and progressed into the oil and gas industry with the introduction of our rope access and breathing apparatus training courses. We have built strong relationships within the industry which has resulted in an expansion of our services and our team. We are winning an increasing amount of new business through word of mouth, from both our clients and people we have trained – several of whom we have helped to find

“Achieving this level of accreditation is a major milestone for us. Our previous level of certification opened up doors for us globally and I expect this latest string to our bow will place us as one of the global leaders in rope access training and equipment hire.

“There has been talk within our governing body, IRATA, to make it obligatory for all member companies to hold the ISO 9001:2008 accreditation for rope access training which we have been reaccredited for, as compliance with an international quality standard would give greater credibility to IRATA members in the global marketplace. For us to have already achieved it positions us at the top of our field and we look forward to maintaining this position over the coming years.”

“In addition, several of our senior instructors are now also qualified as assessors and we have one internal verifier, to ensure our training is consistently of the highest standards.

Allied Training Services employs nine members of staff and hopes to recruit two additional training instructor assessors by the end of the year to keep up with demand.
